The Parade of Trees Lights Up Another Season of Giving

Break out the tinsel, twinkle lights, and tree toppers all in the spirit of giving! That’s right, the 2016 Parade of Trees is fast approaching, with proceeds going to the Boys & Girls Club of Richland County’s Back a Kid Fund, and supporting the mission of the MonDak Heritage Center.

Businesses, organizations, and individuals can donate decorated Christmas trees and wreaths to be auctioned off at 6:00pm on Saturday, Nov. 26th as part of the Sidney Chamber of Commerce’s Christmas Stroll.

This is the 14th year the Parade of Trees has been a fundraising event for the Boys & Girls Club of Richland County, and the second year it will be held at the MonDak Heritage Center, 120 3rd Ave SE in Sidney. The Parade of Trees began in 2006 as a fundraiser for the Boys & Girls Club of Richland County and the Family Resource Center, having raised thousands of dollars for the participating organizations.

Set-up times are on Nov. 17th and 18th from 10:00am – 4:00pm, Nov. 19th from 1:00pm – 4:00pm, and Nov. 21st from 10:00am – 4:00pm. Trees will be on display from Nov. 22 through Nov. 26. Purchased trees can be picked up Dec. 6 – 9 from 10:00am – 4:00pm. Anyone needing special considerations for setting up or picking up trees and wreaths can contact Leann Pelvit at the MonDak Heritage Center at 406-433-3500.

There is room for thirty-two trees and eight to ten wreaths, depending on size. Entry forms can be downloaded from the Boys & Girls Club of Richland County Facebook page or they can be picked up at the Club, 200 3rd Ave SE. Those who donate are asked to glue the sections of the tree together, glue bulb ornament tops onto the bulbs, and wire all ornaments to the trees to prevent them from being broken when they are picked up. It is also asked that there are no loosely glittered ornaments, real feathers, or live plants including fruits and vegetables on the donated trees and wreaths. Please do not include anything that you do not wish to donate except an extension cord. Extension cords must be picked up following the event, so please include your name on the cord. A separate entry form must be filled out for each donated item. Voting for Best of Show, People’s Choice, Most Creative, and Best Wreath will start Nov. 22nd, with winners announced just before the auction on the 26th.

The club will be decorating a tree that will display hand-made ornaments representing different aspects of the new building; those ornaments will be available for purchase, with those specific funds being put towards the new building project.
