There are New Opportunities for Young Professionals in Richland County

A brand new business service is taking shape in Richland County. Sidney Young Professionals has been formed through Richland Economic Development Corp (REDC).

The non-profit service was initiated by REDC Project Assistant, Katie Dasinger, after visiting with City Attorney, Joel Krautter, about the challenges of moving to Sidney without knowing anyone, and establishing themselves professionally. The two were familiar with the Young Professionals group in Billings, and did further research into the Watford City Young Professionals to determine how to best address the needs in Sidney.

The purpose of the group is to create networking opportunities and outreach through events and classes, as well as to develop a social element that highlights what Sidney has to offer outside of work. Their overall goal is to run the program annually during the school year and have a variety of people in different professions meet. Additionally, there was a high turnover of young professionals in the area, and the group can act as a resource for businesses to help them recruit and retain employees.

Dasinger presented the idea to the REDC Board and got their approval, as the new group supports REDC’s mission: To take action or encourage action by others which will assist potential new or existing businesses to improve their chances of survival and contribution to economic growth in Richland County, Montana.

“Katie has a passion to give back to and enhance the community,” said Leslie Messer, REDC Executive Director. “This isn’t a duplicate service and it is another resource for the community. There isn’t anything else like it in the area and REDC is very pleased to offer the program.”

This year, the focus of the group will be connecting like-minded people, with future plans to offer beneficial classes on things like social media marketing and updating resumes. The Sidney Young Professionals will meet the second Tuesday of the month, and their first meeting is on Nov. 8th at the Tap House, located at 900 ½ S Central Ave, from 6:00pm – 8:00pm. They invite anyone who’s interested to stop in and see what they’re all about, and are asking for a simple at-the-door donation.
