Hansen to Receive Additional Psychiatric Evaluation

Raymond Hansen appeared in court before District Judge Richard A. Simonton on Wednesday, Nov. 2nd; Hansen has been charged with deliberate homicide in the Aug. 24th shooting of Terry Klein. He entered a plea of not guilty on Sept. 14.

Hansen has had a psychiatric evaluation, and will be examined by the state mental hospital; if it is determined at his competency hearing that he is fit to stand trial, pre-trial is set for February 6, 2017. Those results will also determine if trial dates Feb. 20th – 24th and Feb. 27th – Mar. 3rd will be feasible for the defense.

Any affirmative defenses or notice of the decision to waive a jury trial must be made by Dec. 2nd. The disclosure of witnesses, experts, and exhibits must be made by Dec. 6th. There are five reports from the Montana State Crime Lab and one from the FBI crime lab in which reports are still pending and will be included in the state’s evidence.

Hansen is being represented by Steven Scott with the State Public Defenders Office.
