WHS Wind Ensemble Named Governor's Band for 2016-2017

Gov. Jack Dalrymple today announced that the Williston High School Wind Ensemble and the Sheyenne High School Concert Choir have been selected to serve as the 2016-2017 Governor’s Official State Band and Chorus.

“Congratulations to the Williston High School Wind Ensemble and the Sheyenne High School Concert Choir for being named this year’s Governor’s Official Band and Chorus,” Dalrymple said. “These are two very accomplished organizations and they will represent North Dakota with pride and enthusiasm. They have continued the fine tradition of outstanding musical talent that exists in schools and communities across our state.”

The Williston High School Wind Ensemble is directed by Eric Rooke and is comprised of 144 students. The band performs regularly at sporting and community events showcasing the strength of the WHS music program and the musical talents of its members. Along with local activities, the band has also performed in Chicago, IL, San Antonio, TX, and San Diego, CA. Members of the WHS Wind Ensemble are often selected to continue their musical education through participation at the collegiate level for colleges such as the University of Mary and the University of North Dakota.

Sheyenne High School Concert Choir, under the direction of Anthony Peterson, is comprised of 47 members from grades 9-12. The choir performs four formal concerts each year, along with participation in numerous music festivals and competitions including large group, small ensembles, solo and select honor choirs. The students also participate in other school and community events by providing vocal performances of the National Anthem, special music for graduation ceremonies, community-wide holiday caroling and various other functions.

The Governor’s Band and Chorus were selected from applications submitted by school and civic groups from across the state based on musical talent, achievement and community involvement.
