RTC Sponsors Nelson For Youth Tour

Grace Nelson, a junior at Alexander High School, is attending the 2017 Foundation for Rural Service (FRS) Annual Youth Tour, June 3-7. Each year, in collaboration with National Telecommunications Cooperative Association member companies, FRS brings rural students from across the United States to Washington, D.C. for a four-day tour.

While in Washington, Grace will learn about the telecommunications industry, as well as the regulatory and legislative processes. She will visit the U.S. Capitol and the U.S. Department of Agriculture, and meet with industry leaders and members of Congress. Attendees will be given ample time to explore the Nation's Capital and its many attractions such as the Lincoln and Jefferson Memorials; the Korean, Vietnam and new World War II Memorials; Mount Vernon, home of George Washington; the Smithsonian Museums; and much more.

Every year RTC randomly selects a school within their serving area. In turn that school selects a high school junior to attend the expense-paid FRS Youth Tour. Alexander High School was drawn this year and Grace Nelson was selected. Grace tutors other students and helps in elementary classrooms. Grace is the football team manager and is the lead alto in the school choir.
