Light the Park is Set to Kick Off the Sunrise Festival of the Arts

The Sound Exchange

Sidney Health Center and the Foundation for Community Care are partnering with the Sidney Area Chamber of Commerce and Agriculture to kick off this year's Sunrise Festival of the Arts on Friday evening with the traditional concert and a tribute to area cancer patients through Light the Park.

The third annual Light the Park event is set to take place Friday, July 13 at Veterans Memorial Park in Sidney. There will be a free concert sponsored in part by XTO Energy starting at 6:00 PM featuring The Sound Exchange, a five member acapella group based in the Twin Cities of Minnesota. The entertaining group is known to bring dazzling harmonies, great stage presence and a wise-cracking audience interaction.

In addition, a VIP tent will be erected near the performance area with beverages and catered appetizers. Admission to the tent is $30, which includes two drink tickets, food, and a lantern to be hung in the park in honor or memory of a loved one affected by cancer. Tickets are currently on sale at the Foundation for Community Care, through the website at, or at the park the night of the concert.

Light the Park raises money to honor cancer survivors as well as loved ones who have been lost, and helps to ensure the continuance of quality cancer care services in Richland County. Lantern lights will be available in an assortment of tribute colors and strung through the trees at Veterans Park for the evening, illuminating the park with purpose and passion for those affected by cancer. The night will end with a dusk lighting ceremony recognizing the lantern honorees.

Sunrise Festival of the Arts, hosted by the Sidney Chamber of Commerce, starts at 8:00 AM on Saturday, July 14 and features artists, vendors, entertainment, a Kids Korner, and a variety of beverages and food. Sean Heavey of Glasgow, MT is the featured artist and his photograph, "The Mothership" is the featured art piece. Purchase a Sunrise Festival button for $4 before the event, or $5 at the event for a chance to win the featured art piece or other prizes during the day.
