Hess Supports Watford City Tornado Victims

Hess Corporation provided support for the families impacted by the July 10 tornado that hit Watford City. Hess has donated 70 mattresses, frames and associated bedding to help ensure that all those impacted have a comfortable place to sleep.

Hess purchased these essential needs from I Keating Furniture World and, with their assistance, provided them to the McKenzie County Office of Emergency Management on Wednesday, July 18. The 50 full size beds and 20 twin size beds were identified by emergency responders as an item in critical shortage, as the nearly 200 people displaced have short-term emergency housing available to them, but without furnishings.

"We are truly grateful for all the many organizations in our state who have been so willing to make such generous donations, on such short notice," said Karolin Jappe, McKenzie County emergency manager. "When disasters like last week's tornado hit, it's truly amazing to see our many residents and corporations respond to the need. This donation by Hess will allow those people in temporary housing to have a comfortable place to sleep during this difficult recovery."

"Last week's tornado and the damage that transpired was heart wrenching for all of us," said Brent Lohnes, General Manager for Hess in North Dakota. "When we saw the impact that the tornado had we wanted to help and we hope the supply of bedding at this critical time will help provide some support for families impacted by this terrible event and will aid in the recovery process."

"It's always tough to watch when people are impacted by a natural disaster, like the tornado in Watford City. If these donated mattresses and frames can be used in easing their worries or concerns in just the smallest way then we are glad to help," said Matt Kramer, general manager of I Keating Furniture World in North Dakota and Montana. "It's great to see a corporation with a large footprint in North Dakota, like Hess, step up to meet these basic needs. We wish a speedy recovery to all the families and individuals impacted by the July 10th tornado."
