NDSU And UND Presidents To Discuss Impact Of Research Enterprise On North Dakota's Economy

Thursday, October 4, 8:30 a.m. Ernie French Center, NDSU Research Extension Center

The Williston Area Chamber of Commerce is hosting a joint presentation by North Dakota State University President Dean Bresciani and University of North Dakota President Mark Kennedy on the impact of and the future of the university research enterprise. They are making the case for an initiative that would provide $100 million over a four-year period to the two universities to fund promising research that is important for sustaining North Dakota’s competitive advantage and developing new opportunities with high potential in key technology sectors, including:

• Autonomous systems, including unmanned aerial systems (UAS)

• Agriculture and food safety

• Healthcare and biomedical services and technologies

• Energy and natural resources

• Material sciences

• Advanced manufacturing

According to the National Science Foundation, NDSU and UND perform over $225 million in research on an annual basis. University R&D also plays an important part in building the skilled talent pipeline for employers in North Dakota and the region and partnering with the state’s businesses to bring new products, processes and services to the marketplace.

The Williston presentation is one in a series of statewide events co-hosted by the Valley Prosperity Partnership, an initiative led by business executives to identify and advance common strategic economic development opportunities for the Red River Valley region and ultimately statewide across North Dakota. The VPP asks you to join them in seeking to diversify the state’s economy through research activities. This unique situation, where both research university presidents are visibly supporting a state-wide strategic initiative is a great opportunity for business, education, and community leaders in the Williston area to let them know about their expectations for future-oriented research that can have an impact in your region.

Space at this event is LIMITED! Please call the Williston Chamber at 701.577.6000 or send us an email to RSVP!
