Join Area Nonprofits in the 2018 #GivingTuesday Movement

#GivingTuesday is a global day of giving that harnesses the collective power of individuals, communities and organizations to encourage philanthropy and to celebrate generosity worldwide. Following Thanksgiving and the widely recognized shopping events Black Friday, Shop Small Saturday, and Cyber Monday, this year’s #GivingTuesday will take place on November 27th and will kick off the giving season by inspiring people to collaborate and give back. “When we participate in #GivingTuesday on a local level, it allows us to show pride in our Richland County communities. #GivingTuesday allows us to focus on the positive work of nonprofits, and support those positive messages, potentially inspiring others to get involved in the future,” says Gina Heckey, Senior Executive at the Foundation for Community Care.

Richland County’s own group of nonprofits, the Nonprofit Connect, will be participating in #GivingTuesday this year. As Sr. Rita Rauschendorfer stated, “Having a startup nonprofit, VISION OF HOPE Autism Ministry of Emmaus House which addresses autistic needs in Richland County, it has been great to have a network of nonprofits to lean on and connect with,” the Nonprofit Connect is a place where all nonprofit organizations, non-government organizations, government entities, and individual volunteers come together to enrich and advance Richland County.

Founded in 2012 by the 92nd Street Y – a community and cultural center in New York City - #GivingTuesday inspired millions of people to give back and support the causes they believe in. Over $300 million was raised online to benefit a tremendously broad range of organizations, and much more was given in volunteer hours, donations of food and clothing, and acts of kindness. There are so many different ways to give on #GivingTuesday. “We can always use donations for our baby boutique such as, baby items and clothing up to size 5T, and we also always need volunteer help in our office,” says Dena Lake, Executive Director at the Sunrise Women’s Clinic, “We love that #GivingTuesday gives community members an outlet to give back in so many ways.”

Those who are interested in joining the Nonprofit Connect’s initiative can visit the #GivingTuesday website (www.givingtuesday.org) to see which nonprofits in Richland County are involved.
