The Sidney Lions Club donated a bench and plaque at Veterans Memorial Park as part of the "Take Part in the Park" project. The club also issued a challenge to other clubs, businesses and organizations to contribute part or all of the funds needed to purchase a bench.

Arranged in front of the pavilion, the new benches are anchored in concrete and provide excellent viewing of activities on the stage. Parks and recreation director Stephanie Ridl stated that 17 more benches need to be funded, since more are able to fit than previously anticipated. Although the full cost of a bench with plaque is $1150, any dollar amount is welcome, and your donation is tax deductible. $40,000 has been raised so far which Ridl says is "pretty awesome!" She said that it has been about a 50/50 split between businesses and memorials from family and friends.

Visit City Hall, 115 2nd St., S.E., Sidney for more information or to donate.
