Montana has one of the most unique and spectacular landscapes in the nation. The state’s vast and textured terrain allows for so much preservation of the natural beauty that communities are spread far and wide. Because of this spread, Montana has one of the darkest skies in the country. Normally it’s up to the stars to shine, but this holiday season it’s time for the Sidney community to shine. The Communities in Action AmeriCorps members come from all across the country and are excited to see how the Sidney community celebrates the holidays. They are so thrilled to host the first Winter Light Up contest!
The Communities in Action Corps work to provide a better quality of life in Richland County through various programming, partnerships, and, the Communities in Action Corps members and local sponsors hope that this event will provide a unique opportunity for holiday family time and community connection.
Any building (home or business) within the Sidney city limits is eligible to enter. Houses will be photographed and featured on the event Facebook page. The houses will be judged by the Communities in Action Corps members on each of the following categories: Brightest, Most Creative, and Fan Favorite. The deadline to enter will be December 14 by 5 p.m. The Communities in Action Corps members will be judging the decorations starting the 16 and going through the 18. Judging hours will be 6-8 p.m., and only lights/decorations visible from the street will be judged. The winners will be announced on December 21 via the event Facebook page. You can enter by emailing [email protected], calling the Richland County Health Department at 406-433-2207 (ask for Kristin), or registering online via the link on the Winter Light Up Facebook event page.
The winners of the “Brightest” and “Most Creative” categories will receive $50 gift cards to Reynolds. The runner-ups in those categories will receive a $25 gift card to Johnson Hardware or High Caliber Sports. Fan Favorite will be the category that is selected based on the community’s opinion. The “Fan Favorite” prize is sponsored by Oneok and will be revealed at a later date, so stay tuned on the Facebook event page! If you already have decorations put up, be sure to enter your house! The group of Communities in Action Corps members can’t wait to see Sidney’s holiday spirit!
