CAEP Cultural Exchange Program Explained

In our Salute to the Beet Growers edition, which was published on February 13, Scott and Anita Buxbaum discussed the program through which they host agriculture exchange visitors.

Maja Behrens, CAEP manager, explained the program further. The Exchange Visitors that (Buxbaums) are hosting are on CAEP’s Cultural Exchange Program with a training component in agriculture. The purpose of the program is to increase mutual understanding between the people of the United States and the people of other countries by means of educational and cultural exchanges. Educational and cultural exchanges assist the Department of State in furthering the foreign policy objectives of the United States.

The host creates a training plan for the exchange visitor to learn agriculture skills from the hosting organization as well as experience the people and culture from the hosting community. The exchange visitor may stay in the cultural exchange program for one year and has the chance to travel the United States after the completion of the program to learn more about the country.

Behrens is originally from Switzerland, not Sweden as stated in the Buxbaum story.
