On Friday, May 10 from 5-9 p.m. and Saturday, May 11 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. you will have the chance to view a wide variety of art done by some talented artists at the first ever Northwinds Art Festival. This art festival will have many creative mediums of art including acrylics, carvings, jewelry, oils, pottery and watercolors.

The creators of the Northwinds Art Festival are artists, Leith DeWeese, Connie Tveten and Larry and LeAnn Ochsner. Thanks to them the Festival gives art enthusiasts a great opportunity to view a wide variety of art at the Cafeteria at Culbertson High School in Culbertson, MT this Mother's Day weekend.

Leith DeWeese began painting watercolors after retiring from teaching and has been at it for the last ten years. Her early works started with old houses and from there she has moved on to landscapes, florals, nostalgia pieces and farm commissions. She is known for her "Faded Dreams and Empty chairs" series, which is a collection of paintings celebrating and commemorating Montana's old homesteads. Leith is a member of the MT Watercolor Society and Wild Bunch of Artists. Her work has been exhibited in the North Dakota Art Gallery Association 2017-2018 Touring Show.

Connie Tveten is a consummate wood carver who excels in life-like carvings of birds. She lives in rural northeastern Montana and relies on first hand observations of birds in their natural habitat for accurate renderings of her subjects. She emphasizes the anatomy and attitudes that capture the character of each individual bird. The carvings are then painted with acrylic paints creating lifelike works of art. Connie also exhibits paintings of still lifes, rock renderings and western themes.

Larry and LeAnn Ochsner have been designing and creating sterling silver gemstone jewelry since 2003. They search the world for new vibrant stones for their jewelry. Larry is a master of grinding and preparing stones for setting in his lapidary shop. LeAnn takes the finished cabochons and designs the sterling settings. Together, Larry and LeAnn produce some of the most distinctive and unique jewelry.

The Northwinds Art Festival group has plans not only to be in Culbertson this Mother's Day Weekend but is also planning for next year as well.
