Letter To The Editor

The E-rase your E-waste Committee would like to thank everyone who participated in our 2019 Spring E-rase your E-waste events in Sidney and Fairview. The official tallies are now in and, altogether, more than 80 MonDak area businesses and residents recycled another 14,385 pounds (more than 7 Tons) of electronic waste!

That brings our grand total to 487,000 pounds recycled since the program's inception 15 years ago. That's more than 243 Tons of e-waste with its toxic substances and heavy metals that did not go into our local landfill.

Our thanks to everyone who makes this event possible every year: our participants, our volunteers, our local media (both print and broadcast), our sponsors and our e-cycler Yellowstone E-waste Solutions of Billings, whose participation enables us to support a Montana business and still provide free e-cycling for our community.

The organizers also want to extend a hearty thank you to the Richland County Solid Waste and Disaster and Emergency Services departments for providing the space along with logistical and financial support for our 2019 events. And many thanks to our amazing Ameri-Corps volunteers (several of whom are pictured) who braved the cold (and May snow!) to help haul all 14,000+ pounds. Those volunteers included Katie Van Loon, Sunny Asaf, Becky Zanerki, Molly Brodhead and Caysi Johnson. It's a group effort every year, and we really appreciate everyone's commitment to keeping our community healthy and safe through this project.

We're also looking forward to our annual fall collection event on Sept. 6-7, where we are planning to unveil a new feature of interest to many. Watch for future announcements.

See you then!
