Overturned Boat On Yellowstone River, Saturday, June 29

On June 29, 2019 at about 2:30 p.m. the Richland County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a 21-foot boat that had overturned on the Yellowstone River near Benny Pierre Creek and CR 122. It was found that two adults and one child were boating on the river and had pulled close to the bank and attempted to retrieve something from the edge of the bank. A large part of the bank gave away onto the boat, knocking one of the adults out of the boat, and then causing the boat to overturn. The other adult and child then were trapped under the boat. The adult was able to get himself and the child out from under the boat and safely to the shore with the help of the other adult. The three occupants of the boat were taken by EMS to Sidney Health Center where they were treated for injuries and subsequently released. The child was wearing a life jacket at the time of the incident.

Richland County Sheriff John Dynneson extends his gratitude to those that assisted with the incident, especially the Sidney/Richland County Fire Department, Richland Count Emergency Medical Services, Sidney Police Department and his staff.
