McKenzie County Senior Day Expo Slated For Sept. 7 In Watford City

On Saturday, September 7 there will be a McKenzie County Senior Day Expo at the Veteran’s Memorial Building and Civic Center in Watford City. This free event will start at 1 p.m. and end at 6 p.m.

The event will feature local professionals speaking every fifteen minutes about Healthcare, Wellness, Wealth Management, Insurance, Probate Law, Social Services, Family Caregiver Support, and the Senior Safety program available in McKenzie County. The Looney Lutherans, a comedic group out of the Twin Cities, will also be entertaining around 3:30 p.m. and again at 5:15 p.m.

The Expo will offer local businesses, organizations and clubs along with service organizations, a chance to promote and advertise their services by renting a booth for $25. Booths can be reserved before August 15th online at http://www.eventbrite.com. There will be tours of the McKenzie County Healthcare Systems Campus, highlighting the Nursing Home and Assisted Living along with the Fox Hills and Hillside Court Senior Living apartments.

“This event came to fruition through a desire to bring public awareness to services available to our 55 and older population here in McKenzie County,” said Julie Dragseth, Senior Day Organizer and Supervisor of the MCHS Horizon Assisted Living. “On moving back home to Watford City I noticed a disturbing trend; some of our older adults were leaving the area, moving to larger cities. I wanted to create an event that highlighted all of the wonderful Senior Living options, services, organizations, businesses and clubs to let seniors know, you don’t have to leave McKenzie County to get needed services or enjoy retirement!”

The MCHS Women’s Auxiliary, The Eagles Club, McKenzie Electric Operation Round Up, The Job Development Authority and Thrivent have all contributed financially to this event. “What a blessing it is to live in such a generous community. We are so grateful to all of our contributors,” added Dragseth.

A Senior Day Planning and Organizing Committee was established by Dragseth to help bring individuals and community leaders together to improve the success of the event. “I have a fabulous group of individuals and community leaders on the planning and organizing committee for this event. They have been instrumental in moving this event forward and have offered a wealth of information, knowledge and experience,” stated Dragseth. The group is comprised of Sam Perry, Shiloh Chavez, Daniel Stenberg, Nyla Dahl, Michon Sax, Ashley Saylor, Stacey Arnegard, Pastor Rob Favorite, and Marcia Hellandsaas.

“The McKenzie County Senior Day Expo committee is excited to be offering an event that focuses on our elder population. We want our senior citizens to know they are an important and vital resource in our community,” explained Dragseth.

Everyone is encouraged to mark your calendars and come out and enjoy this wonderful event on September 7 in Watford City! For more information about this event contact Julie Dragseth at 701-444-4689.
