MCHS Inc. Women's Day To Feature Amberley Snyder On Sept. 14

McKenzie County Healthcare Systems (MCHS) will be hosting their Annual Women’s Day event at the Rough Rider Center in Watford City on Saturday, September 14. The event includes a Fun Run, vendor show, free lunch, motivational speaker, Amberley Snyder, Long X Arts Foundation activity, and presentation of “Woman of the Year” Award.

The free event will kick off at 9 a.m. with a 5K Fun Run. The vendor show will start at 10 a.m. and wrap up around 2 p.m. The sponsored lunch will begin at 11:30 a.m., people interested in attending the lunch, and the motivational speech are required to register for a ticket at http://www.eventbrite.com.

Amberley Snyder will be the keynote speaker at the event. Snyder is a paralyzed championship barrel racer. She was involved in a rollover truck accident in 2010, which left her paralyzed from the waist down. Although she lost feeling in her legs, she did not let that stop her from riding horses. To continue horseback riding, she equipped her saddle with a seatbelt and trained her horses to listen to her voice and hands and to ignore her legs.

Eighteen months after the accident, Snyder returned to competing in rodeo. She now competes in the Women’s Professional Rodeo Association in barrel racing and has won multiple awards with the Cowboy and Cowgirl Hall of Fame. She also teaches barrel racing clinics around the nation.

Snyder shares her inspirational story at speaking events across the United States. She is also the author of a motivational children’s book called, “Walk Ride Rodeo: A Story about Amberley Snyder” that tells the story of her accident and the obstacles she has overcome. Snyder not only has a book that shares her life story but also a movie. In 2018, Netflix released a movie based on Snyder’s life titled, “Walk Ride Rodeo.”

There will be a meet and greet following Snyder’s talk where attendees can purchase her books, posters, or t-shirts. Snyder will autograph items, and attendees can have their picture taken with her as well.

After Snyder gives her speech, the Long X Arts Foundation will be putting on an activity called “Paint N’ Chat,” there will be a $10 fee per person to attend.

To conclude MCHS, Inc. Women’s Day there will be a presentation of “Woman of the Year” Award. This award will be presented to an outstanding woman in McKenzie County. Criteria for being selected for this award is that the recipient must have dedicated time and commitment to the MCHS, Inc. community by working to increase public awareness and support of MCHS, Inc. This woman will have also mentored and supported other women within MCHS, Inc.

Thanks to Slawson Exploration for sponsoring the speaker and the American Legion Carl E. Rogen Post 29 for sponsoring the lunch so this event could be made free for the public to enjoy.
