War In Watford City Sept. 13 & 14

The most heated rivalry among two North Dakota hockey teams heads to the Badlands. The Watford City Youth Hockey Association has invited the Bismarck Bobcats and Minot Minotauros to Watford City for a preseason tilt. It has been dubbed "The War in Watford City".

The preseason games will take place Friday, September 13 at 8 p.m. and Saturday, September 14 at 7 p.m. at the Rough Rider Center in Watford City. Bismarck Bobcats owner, Thom Brigl, says he is excited to bring the North American Hockey League (NAHL) to western North Dakota and particularly to have the youth in the area see the high-level action.

Spectators of the War in Watford City hockey games can expect to see top talent on the ice. Minot Minotauros defenseman Sam Skinner and Bismarck Bobcats forward Austin Jouppi are currently representing NAHL Team USA in Sochi, Russia.

This will be the first matchup of central division rivals as both teams look to evaluate its own as well as the opponent's rosters for the season. Bobcats head coach, Layne Sedevie, says he is very excited about the coming season. He adds that Minot is always a good measuring stick. Taking the North Dakota rivalry out west is a cool idea and he was glad to have been invited.

Tickets for the "War in Watford City" are on sale now at Rough Rider Center office, as well as online at RoughRiderCenter.com or by calling 701-842-3665. Adults are $12/ticket and child tickets are $8/ticket. 200 FREE student tickets per night are available for Kindergarten and 1st grade students and can be picked up at the Rough Rider Center front desk.

The weekend is being dubbed as the RRC Classic Days. Families can enjoy a festive atmosphere upon arrival which includes grilling of burgers & hot dogs, free bouncy houses, free live music and even take in a free car show before they head to the Wolves home varsity volleyball game at 5:45 p.m. Friday, Wolves home football game at 7 p.m. Friday and/or War in Watford City hockey games on Friday and Saturday. Hockey fans young at heart will also have a meet and greet opportunity on Saturday afternoon and a skate with the player time on Saturday after the game. The teams will be wearing commemorative Oil Rig themed jerseys for the games. The jerseys will be auctioned after the games.
