Stockman Bank Donates to LVA

Stockman Bank in Sidney donated $500 to Learning Volunteers for Adults to help them obtain new testing materials which they are required to buy. LVA coordinator Bernie Braden explained that the computer software is very expensive but necessary to keep the students up to date as required by ProLiteracy which is the accreditation group, and other reporting agencies.

LVA provides an avenue for adults to obtain their GED plus they teach English to students from a variety of countries including Mexico, China and the Ukraine. The service is free except for a $10 copy fee. They currently serve 14 students and have had as high as 20. Braden is assisted by two volunteers from AmeriCorps and is looking for new volunteer tutors. Anyone interested is encouraged to call her at 406-480-1971.

Classes are held in the Sidney Richland Library which will soon be finished with its remodeling project. Braden is excited about moving her office and the classroom to the newly remodeled basement which she calls "stunning."
