Sidney-Richland County Library Begins Curbside Service

The Sidney-Richland County Library started curbside service Tuesday, May 26. This contact-free service will allow people to reserve and pick up books, movies and more while practicing social distancing.

Patrons will be able to request library materials one of two ways.

1. Online: Patrons can go online to http://www.richland.org/spl and access the library’s card catalog by clicking on the link labeled “My Account/Card Catalog” located on the left-side toolbar. Once they have created their account they can place holds for items. Miranda Evenson, Special Services Librarian, has created tutorial videos on creating an account and searching within the catalog. The videos will be available on the library’s Facebook page; https://www.facebook.com/sidneyrichlandlibrary.

2, Phone: Patrons can also place holds over the phone by calling 433-1917.

“During this time of COVID-19 it has been very difficult to not see our patrons in our library. We are surrounded by thousands of books and materials that are not being used by our community. Staff also created a new option with our curbside services. We are offering themed bundles. Patrons can complete a form online or just give us a call and we will build a themed bundle of books or DVDs, or a combination of both”, explains Kelly Reisig, Library Director.

Patrons will receive a call from the Library when their holds are ready for pick up. Materials can be picked up during regular library hours, 10 a.m. – 6 p.m., Monday-Friday. Limited copy, print and fax services will also be available via the book drop. The library will continue to offer free WiFi access from its parking lot.

Materials may still be dropped off via the library book drop. All materials returned to the library will be quarantined for 72 hours. No late fees will be charged during this time. Due dates before the library closed have been extended through June 12 and will continue to be extended as long as the library is closed to the public.

For more information patrons can call 433-1917, visit the library’s Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/sidneyrichlandlibrary, or email at [email protected].
