Kiwanis/Roundup's Outstanding Senior Athlete Male Finalists

Finalists have been selected for the Kiwanis/Roundup’s Outstanding Senior Athlete honors this year.

The winners will be announced at the Sidney Kiwanis Club’s meeting on July 9.

Cody Asbeck

Cody Asbeck excelled in football, basketball and track in Fairview. Asbeck earned All-State honors in both football and basketball. He was selected to play in the 8-man All-Star football game and East-West Shrine Football game. He started the state championship game by returning the opening kickoff for a touchdown in Fairview’s 70-6 victory. He ended up the game with four touchdowns. Asbeck also received All-State honors in basketball where Fairview shared the state championship. He placed fifth in the triple jump at the state track meet.

Kaiden Cline

Kaiden Cline won individual state titles to help Sidney’s dominating wrestling teams during his career. Cline earned state titles at 120 pounds as a senior and 103 pounds as a sophomore. He placed second at 113 pounds as a junior. The Eagles won the team title in each of those three years. He was third on Sidney’s cross-country team at the state meet as a senior.

Gabe Gonsioroski

Gabe Gonsioroski has been a strong all-around athlete for the R&L Fusion. He earned All-Conference and All-State honors as the Fusion advanced into the state semi-final round playoff game in his junior season. He also was selected All-Conference and All-State as a senior. He has been a starter for the Fusion’s basketball team that qualified for the divisional tournament.

Josh Herron

Josh Herrom was a strong inside presence for Fairview’s basketball team that shared the state championship in 2020. Herron received All-State honors in basketball as a junior and a senior. He also received all-defensive team honors for the conference. In track, Herron won the state championship in the pole vault and placed sixth in the high jump. Herron was a second team All-Conference defensive end in football.

Jett Jones

Jett Jones is one of the reasons that the Sidney Eagles have won the last three state wrestling championships. Jones won the individual state title at 205 pounds as a senior and 182 pounds as a junior. He placed third at 160 as a sophomore. As a team, the Eagles scored a Class A record of 310.5 points in 2019 and broke the mark with 340 points in 2020. Jones was voted All-Conference second team as a linebacker in football for his junior and senior seasons.

Blake Lien

Blake Lien earned honors in both football and basketball for the R&L Fusion. Lien was an All-Conference and All-State football player in each of the last two years. The Fusion played in the state semi-final round playoff game in 2018. Lien was selected to the All-Conference second team in basketball as the Fusion advanced to the divisional tournament.

Cooper McGlothlin

Cooper McGlothlin was a standout in football, basketball and track for the Sidney Eagles. He was voted second team All-Conference at cornerback as a junior and received honorable mention as a senior. McGlothlin earned All-Conference honors in basketball as a senior. In track, he enjoyed success in the long jump, javelin, sprints and relays.

Alex Schriver

Alex Schriver was one of the top athletes in the state for football, basketball and track during his career. He earned All-State honors in both basketball and football for the Fairview Warriors and was voted to the 8-man All-Star game. Schriver was involved in eight touchdowns and intercepted three passes in the state championship game win over Alberton-Superior. Schriver was voted the MVP of the District 2C basketball tournament as a senior. He placed 11th, second and fifth at the Class C state golf tournament.
