MSU EARC Field Day Slated For July 20

The MSU Eastern Agricultural Research Center Irrigated Farm Field Day is scheduled for Tuesday, July 20. It is located one mile north of Sidney. Registration will begin at 8 a.m. with the tour following at 8:30 a.m. There will be many featured speakers and topics discussed at this event. Topics will include plant breeding and newly developed varieties for wheat, barley, durum, pea, lentil, and chickpea; herbicide resistant weed control in sugar beets and other crops; disease management in cereal, pulse, and sugar beet and grasshopper issues. EARC agronomists will also present results of sugar beet and pulse crop research, and industrial partners will give updates on the sugar beet industry and pulse protein market.

Chengci Chen, EARC Superintendent, is excited to have field days back to normal. He said, “We’ll celebrate the recovery from COVID-19 pandemic. With a great support and sponsorship from our local businesses and Northern Pulse Growers Association, we’ll cook outdoors and serve steak for lunch this year. The director of Montana Agricultural Experiment Station will give an update on the College of Agriculture and Agricultural Experiment Station. Our industrial partners will also give update on sugar beet industry and pea protein market.”

The EARC will also hold a Montana Agricultural Experiment Station summer conference following the field tour. The administrators from College of Agriculture and Agricultural Experiment Station, and researchers from all seven research centers will meet at EARC to discuss various topics.

The EARC would like to thank their growers, legislators, Montana Wheat and Barley Committee, Montana Department of Agriculture, Montana Pulse Crop Committee, Northern Pulse Growers Association, US Dry Pea and Lentil Council, local and regional Pulse Crop and other businesses for their continuous support to agricultural research at the Eastern Agricultural Research Center and Montana State University.
