Sidney-Richland County Library to Celebrate Awards of Excellence at Open House

(Sidney) - The Sidney-Richland County Library (SRCL) will be hosting an open house on Tuesday, Aug.30, 3-5:30 p.m. SRCL recently received several awards of distinction, including the Library of the Year Award, the Excellence in Library Services and Administration Award, and the Trustee of the Year Award.

SRCL was recognized for its outstanding programs and services to the public, its administration of library services, and its recent renovation and expansion project. Without a doubt, the level of community support ultimately resulted in the Library of the Year Award. The awards committee was particularly impressed with the sheer number of individual letters of nomination that were sent in by the Richland County Community. The awards committee received over 30 letters, the most they have ever received for an award winner.

SRCL also merited recognition with the Montana State Library Excellence in Library Services and Administration Award. This year marks the 7th year in a row that SRCL has received this award. The Excellence in Library Services and Administration Award recognizes public, school, academic, tribal, and community libraries that have shown commitment to their community by improving their services and infrastructure. The Montana State Library Commission acknowledges and celebrates the efforts of these libraries to achieve excellence as identified through criteria developed by fellow librarians. A total of 38 libraries from the State of Montana received this year’s award.

Two trustees, Robin Hernandez and Terry Sivertson, shared in the Jane Lopp Trustee of the Year Award. This award is conferred to acknowledge achievement and leadership of a library trustee through their service to local, state, and national library interests and advancement of library services. Robin and Terry were recognized for their leadership in the strategic vision of the library, as well as their contributions to build strong community and funding partnerships.

The awards were conferred upon SRCL during the annual Tr-Conference in Missoula. Librarians from over 20 states, as well as Canada, met for a week of learning, resource sharing, and celebrating all things library.

“These awards were possible because of the commitment of staff, administration, investors, and community members. This is truly an award for all of Richland County. We look forward to celebrating with everyone at the open house”, said Kelly Reisig, library director.
