It's that time of year again when Alexander holds their annual Old Settlers Weekend for the 77th year Thursday-Saturday Sept. 1-3. Phylis and the late Dallas Hystad are the honorees for this year.
Events begin on Thursday, Sept. 1 with a girls' volleyball game against White Shield at 5 and 6 p.m. The bonfire starts at 7 p.m. at the pit east of the park. Dummy Roping in the park will be from 7-9 p.m. for kids and adults
Rise early to hitch up for the Long X Wagon Train to leave at 9 a.m. from Craig Hystad's ranch. on Friday morning. The train is scheduled to arrive in Alexander round 3 p.m.
Redneck Olympics starts at 9 a.m. at the old Alexander arena. There will be 4-person teams and must be 21 and older to participate. Registration is $100 per team. Included in the event will be pasture golf, cornhole, horseshoes, Slip 'n Slide Relay and Mud Volleyball. Sounds like a fun event to enter. Contact Kole at 701-570-5958 to register.
The Chili Cookoff is scheduled from 1-4 p.m. in front of the fire hall. Cash prizes will be awarded. Contact Kristin at 701-793-5165 for information.
A Soapbox Derby for kids 7-18 will be held on Main St. at 6 p.m. They will be divided up into 2 groups: ages 7-12 and 14-18. No motors, must have brakes and be able to be steered. Cash prizes for 1st-3rd place will be awarded. Call Trudi at 701-651-7518 to enter.
Watch the Alexander Comets take on the Tioga Pirates in a football game at the football field at 7 p.m.
Music by "Double XL Entertainment" will be at the Alexander Bar and Grill on Main St. 8:30-1 a.m.
The big day starts Saturday, Sept. 3 with parade registration and sign-up for Old Settlers ribbons for 50 and older residents and former residents of Alexander from 8-10:15 a.m. before the parade starts at11 a.m. Contact Kristin at 701-793-5165 to register for the parade.
Vendor and craft booths will be set up around the park from 11 a.m-5 p.m.
The barbecue provided by Phylis and the late Dallas Hystad will kick off at noon in the park. Get your Old Settlers button for a full plate of beef, beans, pickles and buns. The Alexander football and volleyball players will be on hand to serve senior citizens and the handicapped.
There will also be a Senior Citizen Social located inside at the Alexander School from 1-7 p.m. Use the south entrance door.
At 2 p.m. SHARP! a cornhole tournament will be held on Main St. Registration will be at 1 p.m.
The Hillbilly Race, is open to anyone. The race consists of 3-person teams; 2 people to push and 1 to ride. Entries must have wheels. Cash prizes will be awarded.

"Drive by Night" will close out the event with a Street Dance from 9 p.m.-1 a.m.
