The McKenzie County Watford City Heritage Park, located west of Watford City, 904 2nd Ave. SW, will be celebrating its 22nd Annual Heritage Day on Saturday, Sept. 17 from 11 a.m.-5 p.m. The park will be filled with fun family games, food, vendors, local artists, entertainment by Mexican folklore ballet dancers, and much more.
At the event, attendees will have the opportunity to visit the historic buildings, look at antique tractors, and participate in old-time school activities.
Sandy Rieker, Heritage Park Director of Operations, said, "Heritage Day gives everyone the opportunity to enjoy the old equipment. We explain the history of harvest and educate the public of days gone by."
The Park's buildings include a trapper's cabin, country school, blacksmith shop, homestead shack, law office, church, barber shop and more. All of these buildings were once up and running throughout McKenzie County. The Park's threshing machine, belt-driven sawmill, stationary baler, and shingle mill will be in operation the day of the event.
"We hope that people will understand the significance of our farmers and ranchers." She said, "Many items that are at the Heritage Park can still be found on a farm, but it is usually not in working order." At the event, there will be demonstrations of how these things are operated.
"Come to Heritage Day to explore the way people lived in McKenzie County many years ago and to enjoy all the activities the event has to offer. This is where new friends are made."
There will be face painting, scarecrow building contest, a pie eating contest, cake walk, three-legged race, sack race, and silent auction.
The Heritage Park is looking for volunteers to help with the event. There are 2-hour volunteer shifts available to help with set up and to help during the day of the event.
