Proposed Seal & Cover For Montana Highway 16 North Of Sidney

Sidney, MT - The Montana Department of Transportation (MDT) would like to announce and invite the public to comment on a proposal to seal and cover (chip seal) about 16 miles of Montana Highway 16 (MT 16), north of Sidney. The project begins just west of the intersection with 22nd Ave, NW (Airport Road) in Sidney, and extends north, ending near Sioux Pass, approximately half a mile south of the intersection with County Roads 139 and 140.

Proposed work includes application of a chip seal and new pavement markings. Ahead of the project, MDT will let a maintenance contract to seal cracks in the pavement. The purpose of the project is to extend the life of the pavement and reduce maintenance costs.

The project is tentatively scheduled for construction in 2024, depending on completion of all project development activities and availability of funding. No new right-of-way or utility relocations will be needed.

An important part of properly planning for future projects is partnering with the community. The Montana Department of Transportation welcomes the public to provide ideas and comments on the proposed project. Comments may be submitted online at http://www.mdt.mt.gov/contact/comment-form.aspx or in writing to Montana Department of Transportation, Glendive office, PO Box 890, Glendive, MT  59330-0890. Please note that comments are for project UPN 10224000.

The public is encouraged to contact Glendive District Preconstruction Engineer Jim Frank at 406-345-8214 or Project Design Engineer Steve Heidner at 406-345-8247 with questions or comments about the project.
