Families and Legacies: Challenging Decisions with Dr. Marsha Goetting, MSU Extension Family Economics Specialist will be our February installment of the Winter Series. Do you know who will receive your property if you pass away without an estate plan? Do you know how title on your real and personal property impacts who receives it upon your death? If you don’t know the answer to these questions or even if you think you now, attend a presentation by Dr. Marsha Goetting. She may surprise you with the answers to those two questions. She will also explore how you can avoid probate with payable on death designations (PODs), transfer on death registrations (TODs), and transfer on death deeds (TODDS) for real property. Join the Foundation for Community Care and MSU Richland County Extension for this event on Wednesday, Feb. 8 in the upstairs room at the Meadowlark Public House, 117 S Central Ave., Sidney, at 6 p.m. We hope to see you there.
District 4 Initial Private Applicator Training will be held for individuals who want to obtain a Montana Private Applicator License, which is required for anyone who is applying restricted-use pesticides to land that they own or lease. Those who have an expired license are also encouraged to attend. In addition, those who currently hold a Private Applicators license can attend to receive recertification credits. The training will cover topics including the private applicator license, tribal license, reading and understanding product labels, record keeping requirements, pesticide law and regulations, integrated pest management, spray equipment calibration, pesticide safety and pesticides’ fate in the environment. The training will be held on Wednesday, Feb. 15 at the Richland County Extension Office, 1499 N Central Ave, Sidney, MT. Registration will begin at 7:30 a.m. with the program starting at 7:45 a.m. and adjourning at 5:15 p.m. Lunch will be on your own. Please register by Monday, Feb. 13. Master Gardener is an education and service program whose purpose is to provide technical assistance and unbiased, research-based information in consumer horticulture. The Level 1 program includes topics such as soils, plant growth and development, vegetables, growing small fruit, trees and shrubs, lawns and irrigation, composting, and an introduction to integrated pest management. We will be offering Master Gardener Level 1 on Tuesday evenings beginning on Feb. 21, starting at 6 p.m. The classes will run for seven Tuesdays, concluding on April 4. The classes will be held at the Richland County Extension Office, 1499 N Central Ave., Sidney. There are two registration track options, either as a Certified Montana Master Gardener which is $75 costs that includes a book, 20 community volunteer hours, and an open book test. The non-certification track includes a $75 cost that includes a book, and no volunteer commitment or test. Those interested in advancing to Master Gardener Levels 2 and 3 must take the certified Level 1 track. Please register by Feb. 14 by calling 406-433-1206.
