Kayla Fox Wellness & Richland County's Commission On Aging Offers Classes To Improve Senior Fitness & Exercise

Kayla Fox has been working and doing her best to help the seniors of Richland County. She does many things but Kayla Fox Wellness is her Yoga business.

While she is not a native of Richland County, Fox has come to know and love the people here. She began teaching Yoga after getting certified in 2016 and initially taught classes for adults of all ages. While teaching a specialized chair yoga class for her yoga teacher certification, she really liked how it was accessible for all abilities and disabilities and the attendees gave her the inspiration to offer more accessible classes.

Now, Fox contracts out with the Richland County Commission on Aging. Kayla Fox Wellness has no storefront but she is still able to do classes. Fox has put regular yoga on the back burner to concentrate on classes to help the elderly in the community. Back in the Fall of 2022, Fox did a six-week close-ended Yoga and Functional Movement class as part of an Arthritis Exercise Program at the Commission on Aging, Sidney and the Fairview Senior Center. She also did a 12-week close-ended Strength and Balance class as part of a Fall Prevention program in Sidney and Fairview. Fox holds in-person sessions and hands out manuals with exercises participants can do at home. Fox's goal is to do one of the programs per season. Since they are through the Commission on Aging, the classes are a one-time donation of $10 to participate for those 60 years and older. Those younger than 60 may participate but the cost is $10 per session.

According to the CDC's website, http://www.cdc.gov, "Each year millions of older people 65 and older fall. In fact, more than one out of four older people fall each year. Falling once doubles your chances of falling again and one out of five falls causes a serious injury such as broken bones or a head injury." Kayla said, "My goal is to improve senior fitness and exercise so older adults can stay living independently as long as they're able to." For more information on future classes contact the Commission on Aging at 406-433-3701.
