Guest Opinion: Woke Craziness

Disneyland has removed the phrase “zip-a-dee-doo-dah” from the music of its parades due to concerns about racial sensitivity. Disney made the change due to the phrase’s origin in the 1946 film “Song of the South,” which has long been criticized for its idealistic portrayal of the post-war South. This was probably one of the most fun and happy songs in animation history. Apparently, for reasons I don’t understand, the following words are now felt to be racist:

“Zip-a-dee-doo-dah, zip-a-dee-ay. My, oh my, what a wonderful day. Plenty of sunshine headin’ my way. Zip-a-dee-doo-dah, zip-a-dee-ay. Mister Bluebird’s on my shoulder. It’s the truth, it’s actual. Ev’rything is satisfactual. Zip-a-dee-doo-dah, zip-a-dee-ay. Wonderful feeling, wonderful day, yes sir! Zip-a-dee-doo-dah, zip-a-dee-ay. My, oh my, what a wonderful day . . .”

It is bizarre how the woke mind works. Only the woke, who live in constant fear of real life, are afraid of the words to this song. At the same time, however, they want pedophiles to be called MAPS (Minor Attracted Persons) and have access to your kids. They want elementary school children to be exposed to all varieties of sexual practices and promotion of gender re-assignment before they have even learned arithmetic. Is there even the slightest shred of evidence these insane woke initiatives make the world a better place?

The “Disney concept” was a fond memory to many of us. I went to Disneyland in California with 2 friends back in high school. I took my wife and 3 young sons there about 25 years ago. We were planning to someday go to Disney World in Florida (with our 3 young granddaughters) but now I am not sure if that is a good idea. I have heard it said: “Disney (pre-WOKE) was a fond memory. Now that they have gone WOKE, they should GO BROKE.”

There are many examples of this insanity. Some of the Dr. Seuss books are no longer being published because of purported racist and insensitive imagery. I have read those books, and looked at the funny drawings, and have not noticed anything wrong. Much of what he has said seems genius to me. I have not read much of Roald Dahl’s books for children, but I did not find anything wrong with them. They are now being edited because some people take offense to them. What would these authors, and Walt Disney himself, think of these travesties?

There are many so called “right wing conspiracies” that have now been validated: the Trump-Russia collusion story was a hoax, Hunter Biden’s laptop story was real; the open southern border is a threat to our national security; COVID came from a Wuhan virology lab; the FBI is politicized; inflation is real; China is a threat; defunding the police is a bad idea; and so on, and so forth. Acknowledgement of this “true disinformation” has never occurred.

The American way of life is now compromised. Our country never was, and never will be, without blemishes and faults. Media bias and unwillingness to accept “diversity of opinion” is jeopardizing our future.
