At approximately 6:40 a.m., June 7, on McKenzie CR 10 near 132nd Ave. NW, a 2016 Kia Optima, driven by Clay Youngbird, Sidney, MT, was traveling westbound and entered the eastbound lane. An eastbound 2019 Chevrolet Silverado, driven by Colton Wood, Williston, ND, swerved right to avoid the westbound Kia Optima. At the same time, the Kia Optima swerved left to get back in the westbound lane. The Chevrolet Silverado struck the Kia Optima head on. The Kia Optima entered the north ditch and rolled. Wood was wearing his seatbelt and sustained minor injuries. He was transported to a local medical facility. Youngbird was not wearing his seatbelt and was ejected from the vehicle. He was pronounced deceased on scene.
At the time of the crash the road conditions were good and dry and the weather conditions were good.
The agencies who responded were, NDHP, McKenzie County Sheriff's Office, Arnegard Fire Department, Arnegard QRU, and McKenzie County Ambulance
This crash remains under investigation by the North Dakota Highway Patrol.
