Seeking Community Input On Expanding Youth Safety & Wellness In Richland County

Richland County Health Department is excited to announce they have been selected to receive an inaugural Coordinated School and Community Partnerships Scholarship by School Services of Montana, a nonprofit education organization serving Montana’s schools. The scholarship is awarded through the School Service of Montana’s Montana Safe and Healthy Schools Project, supported by a “STOP School Violence” grant award from the Bureau of Justice Assistance. The project takes a multi-faceted approach to preventing school violence through professional learning, coordinated school partnerships, and resources and training.

Through this initiative, the Richland County Health Department will become a coordinated school and community “hub”, and will be hosting an upcoming series of free events for families in the community, in partnership with Dr. Tim Tharp, Richland County Superintendent of Schools, and the Boys and Girls Club of the MonDak.

The event series “Prioritizing School and Community Wellness’’ will begin in Fall 2024 with an in-person launch at the Richland Boys and Girls Club, Sidney. Following the fall event, trainings will take place virtually throughout the 2024-25 school year. Sessions will be facilitated by the Cook Center for Human Connection, a national organization which works to support children, families, and schools in eradicating suicide, as well as offering resources and support for those with mental health issues and their caregivers.

The project is seeking input in order to shape the events around topics that are most pressing and relevant in Richland County.

“I am very happy that Richland County was chosen to receive this grant as it will allow us to further explore what services we can provide in rural Montana knowing that mental health resources are extremely limited,” added Tharp.
