The countdown to Christmas has begun in Sidney, and the community is excited to celebrate with a series of festive events leading up to the Magical Montana Christmas Festival. From free activities to unique dining experiences, there is something for everyone this holiday season.

Nov. 29: Kicking Off the Festivities

The festivities start with a FREE Open Skating session from 1-3 p.m. at the Richland Ranger Hockey Dome. Families can enjoy a fun afternoon on the ice, perfect for all ages. Later, join Santa for a FREE Movie at the Centre Theatre from 3:30 5:30 p.m., featuring the beloved holiday classic, “The Polar Express”.

As the sun sets, the grand finale of the day is the Parade of Lights that will light up Central Avenue at 6:30 p.m. Parade lineup begins at 5:30 p.m. at the South Shopko Parking Lot, inviting families to gather and enjoy the festive display of lights and community spirit. The Cutting Edge Dance Studio will once again have the Sunrise City Rockettes performing their entertaining Christmas routine mid-way through the parade.

Nov. 30: Shop Small Saturday and Christmas Crawl

In the heart of Sidney, we are preparing for our annual Shop Small Saturday from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. This year promises to be extra special, with approximately 40 local vendors setting up shop along West Main Street and inside the Yellowstone Mercantile, each one bursting with holiday spirit and unique gifts just waiting to be discovered. From handmade ornaments to artisanal sourdough and cookies, each vendor will highlight their finest wares, inviting all to step inside and experience the magic of small business shopping. This event encourages residents to support local businesses while children may also participate in a Lego contest sponsored by the Boys and Girls Club allowing attendees to vote for their favorite design. There are 6 categories with a $100 cash prize for each category. No pre-packaged themed Lego kits can be used, and all designs must begin with a base provided. Stop by the Boys and Girls Club to enter. All entries are due Friday, Nov. 22.

The Christmas Crawl promises an afternoon and evening of merriment from noon to 8 p.m. Shoppers are invited to purchase a $5 lanyard and shop at participating businesses in downtown Sidney. Those who complete visiting all the merchants on the lanyard will be entered into a drawing and receive an opportunity to win $500. Lanyards are available for purchase at the local establishments. Included in the Christmas Crawl is a Christmas Cocktail contest. Participants will eagerly anticipate the chance to indulge in signature holiday cocktails or mocktails specially crafted by local bartenders for the event. We invite everyone to vote on their favorite signature drink. With lanyards in hand and the open container ordinance waived, folks will be allowed to carry their drinks in the designated area between 2nd St. SE (Cattle-ac) and 2nd St. NW (Mimi’s Kitchen), the town will be ready to celebrate the holiday spirit and shop the day away in style.

Dec. 3: Giving Tuesday Dinner

The Giving Tuesday Progressive Dinner kicks off at 5 p.m. and 6 p.m., featuring a delicious multi-course meal from various participating restaurants, including South 40, Cattle-ac, Meadowlark, The Ranger, and Amy’s.
