Winter Reading Challenge Is Back At Sidney-Richland County Library For 2025

The Winter Reading Challenge is back for 2025! From Jan. 1-31, readers of all ages can participate on the ReadSquared website or mobile app. The theme is “Game On!” and will highlight the library’s growing board and card game selection. Those who complete the program by earning 400+ points through reading, missions, and/or attending events will be entered for a chance to win one of ten food-related prizes!

Registration opened on Friday, Dec. 27. The library will provide free popcorn from 10 a.m.5 p.m. and librarians will be available to help patrons sign up for the program.

At the start of the new year, the Sidney / Richland County Library will introduce Lit Happens, a fun twist on a book club. With one prompt per month, each is designed to be flexible and approachable for new readers. January’s prompt is to read a book with an image, whether it’s fully illustrated or just has a map, it counts! Facebook group discussions will be hosted on the 3rd of each month and those who complete all 12 will receive a tote bag at the end of the year!

Other library programs include the 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten program and the 100 Books Before Graduation. In both programs, each milestone will earn a prize. When participants reach their goal, they receive a certificate and are highlighted in the local newspaper!
