Watford City Blood Drive Planned For Feb. 15

"Start The Year Right And Save Someone's Life"

February is American Heart Month. Heart disease remains the leading cause of death for men and women in the United States and surgery treating its effects often requires blood transfusion. Actually, anyone may need blood at any time. Even someone with a healthy heart may be injured in an accident or require treatment for an illness. United Blood Services is committed to making sure blood is there for every member of the community who needs it.

Along with cards, chocolate or flowers, this Valentine's Day, why don't you and your significant other give blood? You'll promote a healthy lifestyle, share something special and save a life at the same time. Blood can be stored for only 42 days, so a continual fresh supply is crucial. Anyone, including your partner, may need blood at any time to combat illness or recover from an injury.

To make sure there's a dependable blood supply locally, the First International Bank & Trust will be sponsoring the Watford City blood drive being held from 11 a.m.-6 p.m. on Wednesday Feb. 15 at the Watford City Civic Center. To schedule an appointment for a blood donation please call Kathy Skarda at 842-2381 or in the evenings at 675-2333.

"Generally, most healthy people who are over 16 may donate," Rich Larcombe, United Blood Services, explained. "There are quite a few people who do not realize they are qualified to donate. People who are taking over-the-counter medications, vitamins, hormone replacements, diet pills, high blood pressure, cholesterol medications, antibiotics for acne, or medications for diabetes CAN donate."

"We encourage people to roll up their sleeves and donate at the Watford City blood drive. Here is an opportunity to give a priceless gift that will make a real difference in someone's life and costs nothing but about an hour of your time," Larcombe said.

Please call or stop by. You can donate blood, get your blood typed, your blood pressure, temperature, hematocrit, BMI, pulse and cholesterol checked all in less time then it takes for a long walk. Plus, you will "Save Someone's Life".

As usual, walk-ins are always welcome.
