Savage Public School Awarded MDU Resources Foundation Grant

Savage Public School receives a $78,940 MDU Resources Foundation Grant. This funding will help the school install LED lighting throughout the school building and on their football field.

The installation of LED lights will help with future electrical cost savings. Savage's revenue over the past years was made up primarily of taxpayers, the local coal mine, and oil and gas revenue. However, Savage has lost most of its revenue due to a downturn of the economy in oil and gas production along with the expected closure of the Westmoreland Coal Mine. This leaves the school district raising taxes for our property owners at a sizable increase.

"We were very fortunate and very grateful to receive this grant. It has been a breath of fresh air – LED lighting will help us save money," said Martha Potter, Savage Public School Superintendent.

The expected implementation of this project will begin this summer and be completed by the beginning of the upcoming school year.
