Sidney-Richland County Library Summer Reading Program Kickoff June 10

On June 10 from 5-6:30 p.m., the Sidney-Richland County Library will be having its Kickoff Concert for the Summer Reading Program, Veteran's Memorial Park.

The concert will feature Watford City musician and children's book author, Jessie Veeder.

The concert will also have food and free activities for the kids. Veeder is a favorite among the patrons of the Sidney-Richland County Library and was requested to come. The Watford City area musician is also a children's book author and has performed at the library before. To find out more about her, visit her website at http://www.jessieveedermusic.com.

The library is also asking for area businesses to offer free kids' activities at tables. They are also seeking food vendors. Applications for businesses wanting to participate in the event can be found on the library's website, http://www.richland.org/srcl.

The Summer Reading Program starts June 10 as well. It is for all ages. Logging of points can begin that day and the last day to log points will be July 20. The library will continue to use the READsquared app which can be downloaded on http://www.srclmt.readsquared.com. The theme this year is "All Together Now" and the library's goal for Richland County as a group is to read 200,000 minutes. According to the program summary, during last year's program, library patrons read well over 150,000 minutes.

During the reading program, a new mission will be revealed each Sunday. There will be a Music Makers, a Chalk the Walk, a Capturing Kindness Video challenge, take home kits, special events, a giant map of Montana from June 12-16 in the downstairs classroom, a tie-dye event on July 13, a tiny art show, special guests, and an annual raffle for prizes. Participants earn points in READsquared to purchase virtual raffle tickets. There will be a Red Carpet Wrap-Up Party on July 22 and more details to come.

In the program summary, it says, "Thanks to our generous sponsors for the Summer Reading Program! We have the best program in eastern Montana and western North Dakota because of you!" Library director Kelly Reisig said, "We raised more money this year for the Summer Reading Program than every year before. It is a sign of the community's support for family activities."
