Watford City Announces Redevelopment Plan

The City of Watford City is undertaking a community wide redevelopment plan that looks to shape three highly visible parcels of land for the future.

These parcels of land include:

Both sides of Main Street from Park Avenue to the Children’s Park and Long X Visitor Center

The east side of the 200 block on Main Street from Door 204 to Larsen Service Drug

The retired Fairgrounds, which in the survey is divided into areas 3A and 3B, separating the floodway from the flood plain.

The community is asked to take this time to make their input heard by participating in a survey, and help form a vision that could spur developer interest and investment to these underutilized areas.

Watford City Community & Business Development director Vawnita Best said, “Our community has experienced unprecedented growth over the past 15 years, and as the needs and wants of our residents evolve, we are looking for new opportunities at development and redevelopment that can not only improve quality of life, but also help increase the residential and commercial tax base that makes our community so dynamic and vibrant.”

In addition to the public’s thoughts on redevelopment and current satisfaction with goods and services offered in the community, the project aims to evaluate retail and service market leakage to surrounding communities in a 150 mile radius of Watford City, and also interview property owners of the three targeted parcels to understand barriers for redevelopment. Engineering and consulting firm AE2S will be taking the lead on compiling the data and extrapolating the survey information for review by the city council. Residents are asked to fill out the survey, which can be found at bit.ly/WCRedevelopment, by June 30.
