FWP Seeks Public Comment On 2012-2013 Hunting Season Setting Process & The Early Season Migratory Bird Regulations

Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks is seeking public comment on proposed changes to the 2012-2013 biennial hunting season setting process and the early season migratory bird hunting regulations.

FWP is asking the public to make suggestions and to propose changes to the existing hunting regulations for all game species as part of the 2012-2013 biennial hunting season setting process. Comments must be submitted by Sept. 6 at 5 p.m. The FWP Commission will tentatively adopt proposed 2012-2013 hunting season changes at its December meeting. A period for public review and comment will follow.

FWP officials are also seeking public comment on the proposed early season migratory bird regulations.

The regulations would remain unchanged from last year except:

season dates for the Rocky Mountain population of sandhill cranes would be Sept. 10-Sept. 25,

season dates for mid-continent sandhill cranes would be Sept. 24-Nov. 30;

sandhill crane permits in the Warm Springs portion of Deer Lodge County (HD 280-01) would decrease from 30 to 5.

The public may comment on the migratory bird regulations through Aug. 15 at 5 p.m. on the FWP website at fwp.mt.gov on the Hunting page, or write to: FWP—Wildlife Bureau, Attn: Public Comment, PO Box 200701, Helena, MT 59620-0701. Final action is scheduled to take place at the Aug. 18 FWP Commission meeting.
