Farm/Ranch Transition Planning Workshop Offered In Watford City

Farmers and ranchers with a desire to successfully develop a transition plan for their farm/ranch business are encouraged to attend the Farm/Ranch Transition Planning Workshop scheduled for Nov. 16, 30 and Dec. 7 at the McKenzie County Courthouse Meeting Room, Watford City. Sessions will begin at 6:15 p.m. and conclude by 9:30 p.m. CT each evening.

Cost options to participate in this course are:

$55 for individuals, if registration is postmarked by Nov. 9

$15 for EACH for spouse or business associate (up to 2 additional)

$75 for individuals, postmarked after Nov. 9

The fee includes a set of materials for each participant and a snack.

Sessions will combine lecture (delivered through Interactive Video Network) and local speakers. Featured presenters are: Dr. Gary Goreham, North Dakota State University; Andy Zenk, Ag County Farm Credit Services; Laurel J. Forsberg, Attorney at Law, McKennett, Stenehjem, Forsberg, and Hermanson, Watford City/Williston; Dean Zaderaka, First International Bank and Trust vice president/trust officer, Williston/Watford City/Minot; Marcia Hellandsaas and Calli Thorne, McKenzie County Extension Agents.

Class topics include: the Importance of Communication, Farm Business Arrangements: Pros and Cons of Different Types of Business Organization, Tax and Economic Consequences of Asset Transfer Strategies. Various web sites and planning tools to assist in plan development will be shared.
