Irrigators Meeting Set For Wednesday At Fort Peck College

Attention Irrigators on the Missouri River! The Lower Missouri Coordinated Resource Management Council along with Conservation Districts in McCone, Richland, Roosevelt and Valley counties are hosting an informational meeting on Feb. 10 at the Fort Peck College meeting room, Wolf Point. The meeting is set to begin at 1 p.m.

Topics to be discussed will be Point of Diversion Changes (POD) by the Water Resources Bureau, Glasgow. Any changes made to a pump site require POD change with the Water Resource Bureau. The process to notify the Water Resources Bureau of the Point of Diversion Change will be explained.

The dredge owned by Richland and Roosevelt counties will also be discussed. The focus will be on trying to anticipate needs for 2012 so it is very important to look over your pumpsites and try to have a plan of action for the spring. Will the dredge solve your problems or will you need to do more extensive work?

Shannon Johnson, Army Corp of Engineers Billings office, will be discussing the 404 permit requirements for work being planned on the Missouri River. Montana Fish Wildlife and Parks will also be present to help answer 219 questions. 310 permits through the conservation district will also be addressed.

Local Natural Resource Conservation Service (NRCS) officials will explain the EQIP Funding currently being set aside for agricultural producers who had land or other qualifying agricultural structures damaged in 2011 by natural disaster including flood or fire. Sign up for this funding began Jan. 25 and will end March 16. Practices considered for funding include irrigation sprinklers, diversions and pipelines, land leveling, cover crops, animal feeding operation relocations: critical area treatment and obstruction removal.

The council will be using this meeting to gather information to help the conservation districts assess the needs of the area irrigators. If you have concerns or questions please plan to attend this meeting at Fort Peck Community College-Wolf Point Campus, Feb. 10 at 1 p.m.
