Are You Ready to Clean Our City, Williston?

Snow, snow go away, we need you gone for clean up day!

Clean-up Williston Day, a semi-annual event where the community comes together to help beautify the city by cleaning thoroughfares, sidewalks, parks and schools will take place on Saturday, April 27th from 8:30 a.m.-1 p.m. Everyone from the community is invited to volunteer for a great cause!

The vision for Clean-up Williston Day originated last year thanks to Mayor Ward Koeser. “We want to be viewed as a clean oil city, but due to the increase in activity and population, the need to maintain the cleanliness of the city greatly increased, thus the creation of the Clean City Committee,” said Koeser. Volunteers should meet in the parking lot of Aafedt Stadium at 8:30 a.m. to collect cleaning supplies, gloves, vests and to be assigned an area to clean-up at 1 p.m. “Thanks to numerous volunteers and donations from local businesses and groups, Clean-up Williston Day will take place again this year,” said Dan Manjack, Chairman of the Clean City Committee.

In addition to the hundreds of Williston residents volunteering, oil companies and local businesses are also assisting with the clean-up. “We have companies calling daily to help out,” said Kelly Rankin, Communications and Facility Coordinator for Statoil. Along with Statoil, Halliburton, Calfrac Well Services, Schlumberger, Weatherford, MLB Consulting, Philips and Jordan, Best Western Hotel and many other businesses are getting involved. “People want to make Williston a place they can call ‘home’. We want to make this a great place to live,” said Rankin.

New this year, Pacific Steel and Recycling will be taking part in the effort as well. They will be open from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., accepting anything metal, including: appliances, automobiles, batteries, electronics and aluminum cans. They will also be serving hamburgers and hot dogs throughout the day. The city landfill will also be open, free of charge to anyone who wants to drop off trash on April 27th and May 4th from 8 a.m. - 2 p.m.

If inclement weather occurs, the make-up date for Clean-up Williston Day will be May 4th, same time and place. For those unable to attend Clean-up Williston Day but still want to get involved, simply making an effort to help keep the city clean by not littering and picking up trash when found would be a great help. “If we all do our part to keep the city clean, we will be one step closer to making Williston the best little city in America,” said Koeser.
