Chateau De Mores State Historic Site To Host Valentine's Day Programs

MEDORA - The Chateau de Mores State Historic Site will host the program “Fashioning the West: Clothing and Culture in the Victorian and Edwardian Eras” with Anne Foster at 4 p.m. on Saturday, February 14, 2015, at the Chateau de Mores Interpretive Center. There will be a $20 admission fee.

How can a hoopskirt be liberating, a corset comfortable, and just how do you sit down in a bustle? Foster answers these questions and more in this presentation combining historical photographs and reproduction clothing. More than simply whims of fashion, clothing design is a reflection of society, technology, and the economy. Using styles from 1850–1920, Foster links fashion to changes in gender roles, social status, industrialization, and politics. A fashion show featuring reproduction clothing modeled by local men and women will complement the program.

Foster, from Gardiner, Montana, is an archivist by day and owner of a historic house where she lives, works, and plays in history.

The presentation is also included in a Sweethearts Wine Social sponsored by The Friends of the Chateau de Mores. The wine social and program are also featured in a romantic Badlands weekend package at the AmericInn Motel & Suites with dinner at The Little Missouri Dining Room and a spa visit to Cedar Canyon Spa.
