The MDHC Announces Carla Leland Photography Exhibition
December 22, 2021 | View PDF
Carla Leland is a Western Lifestyle photographer based in western North Dakota/eastern Montana.
Her journey started when she was quite young, as her father always had a camera in hand. Carla says "Dad has boxes of photos at home that we love to look back on and remember some great family moments."
After marriage, she moved from her home in Wisconsin to her husband's third generation family ranch in the MonDak region. Carla began taking her old point and shoot camera with her to check water in the pastures, as family and friends back home loved to see the images of cattle, horses and the western landscapes. Photos were needed for Leland Red Angus advertising campaigns and sale catalog and, since she was carrying the camera with, this job naturally fell to her.
Following the purchase of her first DSLR camera Carla also found herself on the sidelines at brandings, team roping events and barrel races and also began taking more photos of the working cowboy – both on the ranch and in the arena. Carla adds "I love this western lifestyle that I am so blessed to live, and I truly appreciate the opportunities I have here on the ranch to capture these moments and share them with others. Since 2019, the guys have dubbed me the "paparazzi" whenever my camera comes out, as we are gathering and working cattle. They all may grimace, or duck under the brims of their hats when they see the camera in my hand, but they all check out the photos to see if I captured any good ones of them doing their thing when I post images online!"
