In late December 2021 Action Auto in Sidney, MT purchased the former Chad's Furniture building at the corner of East Main and 3rd Ave. NE, right across the street from their dealership and service center.
Action Auto, your Chrysler, Dodge, Ram Truck and Jeep dealership, plans to use this property as a new vehicle display lot along with some needed parking.
"I really think this will enhance our display of new vehicles by having them on East Main Street," commented Action Auto's General Manager Gary Schoepp.
In February of 2022 they began the process of obtaining a demolition permit from the city. Then moved into an asbestos assessment with the help of Ingraham Environmental out of Butte, a plan of removal and disposal was put together and approved. With this in place, they removed all electrical, water and natural gas hook ups. Finally, Franz Construction came removed the structure and leveled the lot.
"They (Franz Construction) did a nice job. It was quite a process and now we are letting the ground settle through the winter," Schoepp explained.
Action Auto is currently planning for the next phase of their expansion, which will have to start when the weather warms up. Discussion on ground cover, lighting and any barriers that need to be built is ongoing.
"It's been interesting, as over the summer people would stop and visit about when they had worked at Chad's Furniture or talk about what the buildings were used for, including Gorder Mortuary then owned by Homer Gorder, in the south east corner of the lot. Hearing about local history is always fascinating."
Though there are several more months of work to be done, Schoepp is hopeful the lot will be completed by late fall 2023.
