Sidney Hosts Class A Speech, Debate & Drama State Meet For First Time Since 1993

Sidney Public Schools was honored to host the Montana Class A Speech, Debate, and Drama State Meet for the first time since 1993 on Jan. 27 and 28. The Debate and Drama rounds were held at Sidney Middle School while speech, finals, and awards ceremony were held at Sidney High School.

There were 22 different teams comprising 280-300 students from across the state who came to compete. Sidney placed 3rd overall.

Drama Team Results: Dramatic Solo: 1st Emma Cundiff; Humorous Solo: 3rd Cedar Hovde, 4th Jayce Morgan; Pantomime: 5th Emma Pust, 8th Kylie Burnison; Dramatic Theatre: 7th Brooke Marie Watson and Whisper Enriquez; Original Oratory: 8th Colten Dahl.

The season is over for Speech, Debate, and Drama until the beginning of October. There will be a play in the spring for the students to participate in. Gail Staffanson, speech coach, Hunter Gordon, debate coach, and Christy Pierce, drama coach, wanted to thank the Sidney High School and Middle School administration, principals, and staff for allowing the meet to take place. They also want to thank the custodians, Booster club, and hospitality for showing Sidney at its best. The bus drivers for getting the competitors safely where they needed to go, and the table workers, judges, and coaches for helping to make the event possible.
