McDanold Renovation Brings Much Needed Updates & a Modern Look

JD and Jessie McDanold and their two boys moved to Sidney from Glendive in 2017 and purchased the home that was previously owned by Roger Kimble.

JD is a senior rig supervisor for Cord Energy and Jessie is the mental health therapist/owner of Sunrise Wellness Center, LLC, Sidney. "We just love the location of our home and the neighbors!", they commented.

This beautiful home was custom built about 40 years ago but was in need of some serious updating.

The first phase of their renovation included new doors and windows from Big Sky Siding and Windows, Sidney.

Next, they contacted Brenda Larson, Creative Solutions, Sidney, for a new kitchen and living area layout. With the professional help of MacGrady Construction, Sidney, walls were knocked out, fireplaces removed and rebuilt, floors releveled and redone and interior doors and trim were replaced. The family now has a well-designed, functional kitchen that the entire family can enjoy. Jessie chose cherry cabinets in a shaker design for the perimeter of the kitchen and used dark blue, painted cabinets for the large island. The white and soft gray quartz countertops provide the perfect contrast. The result is both whimsical and elegant. The new layout is much more efficient than the previous U-shape and features organizational accessories in most every cabinet as well as a special spice cabinet for JD's large spice collection.

When asked why they remodeled? Jessie said, "We wanted a "two-butt kitchen!" We spend a lot of family time in the kitchen and loved the idea of opening it up to create a gathering place that accommodates our lifestyle. Without Brenda's help, I don't think we would have thought it possible with the space we started with."

The vinyl, wood-planked floors flow throughout the dining room, kitchen, living area and hallway. This beautiful and durable flooring was purchased from B Home and Design, Sidney, and professionally installed by MacGrady Construction. The focal point of the living area is a massive, stacked stone fireplace that was also crafted by MacGrady Construction.

"We Love It All!" exclaimed Jessie. "We are especially excited to utilize the island and enjoy the new fireplace. We did encounter some unexpected structural problems that would have created major issues in the future. We appreciate the integrity of all of the MacGrady crews. They all had their special niches and the project seemed to evolve as time went on resulting in truly getting everything we wanted, plus some."

"This was such a great project to be a part of," stated Brenda Larson. The McDanolds are a wonderful family that love living here and wanted to give back to the local businesses as much as possible."

The following businesses were used in this remodeling project: MacGrady Construction: general contracting and construction; Big Sky Siding and Windows: doors and windows; Builder's FirstSource: building materials; Prairie Electric: electrical; Agri Industries: plumbing; Sundance (Ryan Dempsey): drywall and texture; PATH: appliances; B Home and Design: flooring; Creative Solutions: cabinets, countertops and design. The McDanold's family and some friends did the demolition and painting.

"We worked with so many amazing local businesses throughout this whole project. Each business was a pleasure to work with. They gave us good feedback and presented ideas we didn't think of. Their flexibility in making it all come together made the project go smooth," stated JD and Jessie. "We Love It All!"
