Make New McKenzie County Fair Memories At New McKenzie County Ag Expo, June 14-17

The McKenzie County Fair is happening Wednesday, June 14-Saturday, June 17. The county fair will be the debut event for McKenzie County Ag Expo, with the ribbon cutting ceremony being held during the Bulls & Broncs event.

General admission to the fair is free and the carnival will run Thursday-Saturday. Be sure to check out the vendors and take in the exhibits; 4-H animal showing is happening Thursday-Saturday.

There is free admission to the Olaf Leiseth Jr. Memorial Draft Horse Event at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, June 14. Events include an obstacle course, pole bending, swamper race, and corn cultivating. Thursday, June 15, is Military Day and there will be a parade at 4:30 p.m. on Main St., and a free beef barbeque at 5:30 p.m. Bulls & Broncs will kick off their event at 7 p.m., and the ribbon cutting ceremony for the McKenzie County Ag Expo will take place that evening. Additionally, the first annual Calf Scramble is happening during Bulls & Broncs; 4-Hers who will be in the 7-12 grade in the 2023-2024 school year will have a chance at catching a calf during the scramble. Those who do will be awarded a scholarship for their next show beef, heifer or steer. There will be a limit of 20 scramblers and 10 calves; contact Karissa Frick to sign up at 701-770-5537.

The Demolition Derby is taking the spotlight on Friday, June 16 with their Back the Blue Night. There will be two classes which are limited weld and chain. Payouts for each are $3,000 for first place, $2,000 for second, $1,000 for third, and $250 for fourth place. There is an opportunity for an additional $3,250 for either class that has 10 or more cars; the money will go towards mad dog and additional placing. Last, but certainly not least, is the NDRA Rodeo on Saturday, June 17 at 7 p.m., slack at 12 p.m. Saturday is also EMS Day. Admission prices for all events are $20 for adults, $10 for ages 7-12, and free admission for those 6 and under.

Don’t miss out on the 2023 after party entertainment with “Nathan Bryce & Loaded Dice” performing June 15 after Bulls & Broncs, “Tripwire” taking the stage June 16 after the Demolition Derby, and “Zechariah Peabody” playing following the rodeo June 17. All After Party entertainment is free to attend and all ages are welcome.

Groundbreaking for the McKenzie County Ag Expo took place in the fall of 2021, with the intention of giving the fairgrounds a new home. Be sure to take in the sites and visit their exhibit hall, livestock expo, arena and grandstands.
