4-H Members To Participate in Richland County Fair & Rodeo

The 2022-2023 4-H year, thus far, has been a large success for the 235 4-H members and 92 adult volunteers in the ten active 4-H clubs in Richland County.

4-H focuses on growing confident, capable, and caring youth through science, citizenship and healthy living projects that provide hands on learning and engagement in their home and community. 4-H has come a long way since its beginning in 1902. 4-H now offers a wide variety of projects including animal science, aerospace, robotics, woodworking, entomology, shooting sports, sport fishing, babysitting, sewing, quilting, gardening, leathercraft, photography, cooking, leadership and many more. Along with the projects, 4-H members attend many events and activities that have an emphasis on citizenship, service learning and leadership. All the members in Richland County practice service learning by completing community service projects at the club and county level. Youth also attend local, regional, state, and national workshops and events that aid them in learning and developing leadership skills throughout the 4-H year.

This year at the 2023 Richland County Fair and Rodeo, 4-H members will be showcasing all that they have learned and accomplished during the 4-H year, which runs from October-September. Member’s projects will be on display from Wednesday, Aug. 2 at 1 p.m. to the conclusion of the fair on Saturday, Aug. 5. We invite all to check out the indoor exhibits, walk through the livestock barns and chat with 4-H members as they work the 4-H food booth.

The horse show will be on Monday, July 31 beginning at 8:30 a.m. We would like to invite all to attend the horse show and cheer on the members for all their hard work this year. We also invite all to come and watch the poultry and rabbit shows on Tuesday, Aug. 1 starting at 2 p.m. The livestock shows will begin on Wednesday, Aug. 2 at 8:30 a.m. and continue Thursday beginning at 8 a.m. On Thursday members will be showing their cats and dogs and competing in small animal round robin. On Friday, Aug. 4 the members will be competing in large animal round robin, as well as participating in the Cloverbud animal parade. In addition, the market livestock program will be holding their annual sale on Friday, Aug. 4 at 3 p.m. at the 4-H arena. The sale will be following the 4-H award ceremony starting at 1:30 p.m. On Saturday, Aug. 5, the 4-H members and Alumni will be participating in a cornhole tournament at 10 a.m. and there will be a free concert at 12:30 p.m. All are welcome to attend these fun and entertaining events to support the Richland County 4-H members and program.
