He was born and raised in Sidney, MT, until 1960, when the family moved to Missoula, MT, where he graduated from Sentinel High School in 1966. That year he joined the Army and served one year in Germany in training, then he was sent to Vietnam, where he received a Commendation Medal for his work as a fire direction specialist and cannoneer in the artillery division.

"Butch" was known for his love of hunting and fishing in the great outdoors. Spending time with his grandchildren whenever he could. He had a great interest in all manner of machinery and a fascination with explosive devices. It didn't matter the size or magnitude from burn piles, fireworks, and firearms.

A loyal and generous friend, he lent a helping hand wherever needed. He provided company and meals as a giving friend. His ensuing acts of kindness spoke volumes about his generous heart. "Butch" will be deeply missed by those whose lives he enriched.
