Watford City’s Christmas theme this year is “Watford City Celebrates A Patriotic Christmas – Honoring Our Heroes”.
Red, white and blue lights adorn Main Street trees. They will honor veterans and other local heroes during the Parade of Lights on Friday. The parade begins at 6:30 p.m. at McKenzie Electric and will proceed down to the end of Main Street.
Wake Up Santa, sponsored by the Chamber and the National Honor Society will be Saturday, Dec. 3 at 10 a.m. at the Watford City High School Commons Area. Photos with Santa will be $5.
There will be a coloring contest for kindergarten through 3rd grade and an essay contest for grades 4-6.
Free movies are being offered at Six Shooters Movie Hall at 1 p.m. on Saturdays, Dec. 3, 10 and 17.Tickets for the movies are free. Concessions will be available for sale. Parents are encouraged to enjoy the free movies with their children. Movies will be supervised, so parents can also drop their children off and use that time to shop Watford City businesses.
Kids Shopping Night will be held Monday, Dec. 12 from 3:30-7 p.m. This event allows children to shop without mom and dad’s help. Mom and Dad can help their child make a list of who they need to shop for and how much money to spend and then bring their child to their favorite store. At each participating store a clerk will help the child select, purchase and wrap their purchases.
From Dec. 12-23 a different person in the community is chosen each day to be the “Merry Christmas Elf” and give away $25 in Watford City bucks. All you have to do is be the first person that day to wish the Merry Christmas Elf a “Merry Christmas”.
Everyone is also encouraged to register for daily and weekly prize drawings offered at many of the local businesses. The Chamber also uses those names to select winners of $250 in Watford City bucks to be given away each Monday in December for a total of $1000 given away. Watford City bucks can be spent at all Chamber businesses.
Christmas loans are available at First International Bank and Trust and Dakota West Credit Union through Dec. 2. Christmas dollars can be used at all Chamber businesses until Dec. 31.
